Onica was born in Guyana, South America, but has lived in the USA for the past 30 something years. A few years ago she started a community called Euphoria Luv. for interracial (Asian & Black ) couples and families. She wanted to provide a place that offered support and resources.
After having her son, who's Korean and Black, aka "Blasian,
" she started the Blasian Baby Notes mommy blog where she shares about life as a mom as well as her thoughts on social & community issues affecting Black women with Biracial kids.
Besides the Blasian community, she also advocates on issues affecting Black women and was invited to Walt Disney World to see, learn about and give feedback on The Princess and The Frog, their first movie featuring an African American princess in a somewhat interracial relationship. I'm currently working on more project which includes guest blogging on various sites that promote a positive image of black women, biracial children and the mixed race community.
I love the different perspectives on Mixed Chicks Chat!
I'm Black and Korean living in New York, and my experience with West Indians has not been accepting one. I always kind of laugh because the irony of my "tragic mulatto" issues comes when I'm in my 30s living in one of the most diverse cities, from people who come from mixed societies, being asked "What are you?", and being questioned about the answer. I guess because as one woman put it, I'm not light enough and my hair's not straight enough to be that.
