Thanks to Esther for sending us this blog post in response to Soledad O'Brien's Black in America series. It's called I'm Neither Black nor White. I'm Both. and is written by actress Lynn Whitfield's 16 year old Mixed daughter. Click on the link to go to the blog post, then come back here & make a comment!
as a mom of three, now adult, biracial children, I'm feeling jubilant to see the sentiments that my children were raised by, being expressed so clearly by a 16 year old woman of mixed ethnic and cultural background.

The link didn't work when I clicked on it but I found the article anyhow. Good stuff! This line was one of my favorites:
"Say it loud, I’m blended and proud!"

Bravo!!! I give her a standing ovation for that!! This just completely summarized my feelings about being mixed. I think we, as mixed people, have to start demanding that society look at us for what we are - multiracial/multiethnic. We shouldn't let society choose which race we are, just because that's the way things have always been. Hopefully with more people like Lynn Whitfield and her daughter, we can send a message that we are 100% blended and proud!
